Developers (heart) Ektron 8.5
Category: Shannon Masterson, In The News, Ektron

Recently, Ektron released its newest version of the CMS400.NET. Version 8.5 unlike previous upgrades, features very few fancy new tools for the general CMS. In fact, this one is all about the developers. The hope is that with its simple framework and several new open API’s, developers will have fun tweaking the CMS so that it performs like a high-octane machine for the customer.

The new workarea, which is described by Ektron as sleek, leaves everything awash in stainless steel grey, and several of those trusty buttons that we’ve come to rely on – like the BACK button -are now streamlined into a personality-less Action bar.

Not to be a Negative Nelly, there are a good many things that this release gives to users and their potential customers.

First, it helps deliver what customers want the right way– through content targeting and localization. By enabling content targeting based on membership elements, you can ensure that your customers who are interested in land conservation get the latest content related to that topic. Localization ensures that whatever content is delivered can be made available in the language specific to the city, region, or country that the customers are in.

Second, there’s the new faceted search. Unlike searches using straight taxonomy, faceted search allows the user to query a number of different categories that will deliver the same result. Through the use of these facets, or filters, users are more accurately able to pinpoint and find the exact piece of information that they are looking for.

Finally, there’s a broadening of the analytics integration within the workarea. In previous versions, Ektron supported their own analytics, then went to a Google Analytics integrations. Now, Ektron is allowing not just Google Analytics to be integrated into the workarea, but Omniture and WebTrends.

While the inside of the new release may be shiny and sleek, especially for the web developers who work with the Ektron CMS, the more specialized content delivery and more in-depth analysis is what will set it apart for everyday users.
