Square Root Interactive Implements Ektron CMS400.NET PageBuilder
Category: Andy Martin, Ektron

The Square Root Interactive team is beginning to explore one of Ektron’s latest developments – CMS400.NET PageBuilder. For the record, the latest development in the WYSIWYG editing process from Ektron does not disappoint. As with any new process we introduce to our clients some welcome it with open arms, others are leery and most fall somewhere in the middle.

For those who are not familiar with this new technology, PageBuilder gives content editors and contributors the ability to easily build out entire Web site pages. By dragging and dropping Widgets created by programmers into predefined Dropzones, end-users with little technical know-how can publish a new Web page in moments.

One of our initial concerns about this new technology is that will give an end user too much leeway for publishing content that simply does not comply with that Web site’s company standards. It seems Ektron has addressed this because each predefined Dropzone can have a variety of business rules tied to it. We are very interested in exploring that further.

As of today, we have deployed Page Builder for a few of our customers to specific areas of their existing sites. The jury is out with the customers so far, but we will receive their feedback soon. I expect their comments will be positive.

As with any other new feature released by Ektron, we think PageBuilder reflects what the CMS market wants. I am excited to see what the future holds for PageBuilder and how it will help our customers produce functional Web sites that are easy to manage.
