What began as a two-person software solutions company founded in Montgomery has achieved what only 30 percent of businesses ever celebrate – a 10-year anniversary.

Square Root Interactive, co-founded by Andy Martin and Mark Cline in May 1999, has evolved into a full-service interactive agency with clients throughout North America.

Since its humble beginnings at the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business Resource Center, the agency now has a staff of 12 employees which includes designers, programmers, multimedia specialists, client liaisons and office staff.

“This is a remarkable accomplishment for Square Root Interactive,” said Martin, the agency’s president. “I consider one of our major keys to success is the fact that we build lasting relationships with our clients. More than 30 percent of our business comes from clients we have worked with in the past.”

One of Square Root’s first clients, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative located in Andalusia, Ala., has had a business relationship with the agency since 2001 which continues today.

“We certainly have had a long-lasting relationship with Square Root Interactive,” commented Mark Ingram, PowerSouth corporate communication department manager. “We are extremely pleased with the Ektron software Square Root recommended PowerSouth use to manage content on our Web site.”

According to Ingram, PowerSouth and eight of the cooperative’s 20 member systems utilize Ektron’s Web content management system, which allows non-technical business users to easily edit, manage, search and publish text, images, video and audio to Web sites.

Square Root recently received an ELITE Partners designation which is an Ektron top-tier partner endorsement. The agency is one of 12 partners worldwide to be awarded the designation.

“We certainly contribute part of our success to the strong, seven-year partnership we have with Ektron,” Martin said. “Ektron is considered the ‘best of the best’ among mid-tier Web CMS provider, and it has certainly made it easy for Square Root to deliver custom Web sites that are still easy for just about anybody to update.”

Through the years, Square Root has earned multiple awards including Web Marketing Association WebAwards for Outstanding Achievement and Best Entertainment Site; an Ektron All-Star Award for Best Entertainment Site; numerous American Advertising Gold and Silver ADDY Awards and a Best in Show title; Public Relations Council of Alabama Awards for Excellence; and more.

“It is amazing how Web site development grows at such a fast pace,” said Cline, vice president and technical director. “No one knows exactly how Internet users will communicate with each other in the future and that is what makes Square Root Interactive such an exciting place. We have the opportunity to develop, test and implement new Web site features before many users even know those technologies are out there.”
