Life at Square Root Interactive
My responsibilities here are at Square Root Interactive are twofold. First, I helped get this place off the ground and serve as vice president. So, like Andy, I have my hands in a little bit of everything. When it comes to operations, I make sure the techies and designers play nice and stay on schedule. It’s important to me that every Web site is the perfect marriage of form and function. In fact, this balancing act between the creative and technical aspects of a Web site is one of the things that makes Square Root unique, and it’s something on which our agency prides itself.
In addition to my role as a “Big Cheese” in general, I also serve as the technical director. In that capacity, my job is to keep the programmers in line, whether it’s giving them a boost when they’re struggling to find the solution to a complex problem, making sure they’re following our standards and methodology, or remembering the end user is not a programmer. Usually, they walk a straight line, and we all work together to develop new and innovative ways to make Web sites more functional for our clients (or new and innovative ways to make some crazy thing the creatives thought up to work).
Life Before Square Root Interactive
I’ve been an information technology geek, err, professional since 1989. My experience includes all phases of software development projects including requirements definition, system design, system development, system testing, problem analysis and resolution, user training, data conversion, system implementation, project management and post implementation support of large scale, complex public sector purchasing systems.
I have nearly twenty years of experience that includes an in-depth knowledge of structured programming techniques, configuration management, and database design. In addition, I have designed and coded numerous COBOL and Visual Basic programs as well as developed both simple and complex HTML/ColdFusion/ASP/ASPX solutions.
Life Beyond Square Root Interactive
When I’m not working, I relax by sailing and racing my sailboats (MC Scow and Catalina 22) at the local sailing club. I find that when I’m in the middle of twenty other boats, and the wind is blowing, I’m not thinking about cash flow, budgets or project deadlines (sweet). I still have dreams of one day giving this all up to be a rock star, so I’m trying to learn how to play guitar. My wife is still waiting for me to serenade her!

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Auburn University.
