Celebrating 10 Years!

Square Root Reflects on the Last 10 Years

You’ve no doubt heard the news: Square Root Interactive celebrates its 10th year in business. As with many of life’s milestones, it’s hard to believe this one is already upon us. It seems just a few short years ago that my first child was born, yet she’s already a teenager! And, I remember my first time behind the wheel of the car like it was yesterday. Likewise, it simply doesn’t feel like it’s been 10 years since Square Root opened its doors.

That said, as I look back on all we’ve learned and accomplished, 10 years sounds about right. After 10 years, here’s what I know:

  • Starting a business and making it a success was harder than I expected, but it's also been more rewarding that I could have imagined;
  • There are lots of folks out there willing to give advice about running a business, and most of it will pan out (if you listen to it); and
  • I would do it ALL over again!

I’ll close with this: I believe small businesses are the real power plant of our nation's economy, and anything anybody can do to bolster them is good for us all. That’s why we’re grateful to all who have helped us along the way, including many mentors and advisors, the Chamber's Small Business Resource Center, and – of course – our many clients and partners throughout the years. It’s also why we’ve chosen to celebrate our own success by giving away a Web site package to a young small business in the River Region with Project: Start-Up. It’s our way of saying, “Thank you” and giving back to the business community.

We hope you’ll help us celebrate AND perhaps give a leg up to small business owners you may know by spreading the word about Project: Start-Up.

 2009-2 Spring: Project: Start-Up

Project: Start-Up Call for Entries
Deadline: June 30, 2009

Starting a business isn’t easy. You may have the right vision, experience and perfect idea for a business but that isn’t always enough to survive. You have to also promote yourself. And for a start-up business that is the last thing in the budget.

So, to celebrate its 10-year anniversary, Square Root Interactive wants to help one start-up business better promote themselves via the Internet by donating a complete Web site package — for FREE. This opportunity includes site planning, design, development, the ability to make site updates in-house using a content management system (CMS), and one year of hosting!

Top 5 Corporate
Blogging Mistakes

I am not much of a blogger or blog reader, however, when it comes to online marketing and PR I am a big fan of marketing strategist David Meerman Scott's blog. Since more and more of our clients are blogging now, I thought his post on corporate blogging mistakes would be an interesting read.
